Dante’s precocious genius allows us to find anticipated in him much of what we now recognise as humanism, even as our word confronts a post humanist social and environmental crisis.
This is because Dante’s great poem is rooted in his own extraordinary humanity as well as his human representation of the humanity of his time.
The way he deals with things of this world (people, animals, politics) all inform his radical enrichment of the Catholic vision of his time.
