|We run courses at all levels on weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings and even weekends. Students can choose between private or group tuition, for individual or corporate purposes.
Students learn the language through conversation and exposure to Italian culture, including art history, cinema, literature and opera. Special classes in Italian regional cuisine are also offered and even an Italian guided tour of the City Bowl.
Società Dante Alighieri also offers tuition for children. Courses take place either at our headquarters in Gardens or in those schools where multilingualism is encouraged, supported and valued. The South African ‘language-in-education’ policy allows these schools’ Governing Bodies the opportunity to select Italian as a Second Additional Language and thus incorporate it in their school curriculum either as a core or an elective subject.
Our courses are built on the principles of the communicative approach which emphasises interaction as both the means and the ultimate goal of learning Italian. Our courses are structured to balance receptive understanding and practical communication, requiring the use of the four language skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. To this end full use is made of audio, visual and other multi-media learning aids, as well as teamwork, role play activities and regular class participation.
Courses at every level are held each term over eleven weeks, so you can commence whenever it’s most convenient – in January, April, July or October.
